The following is from Dr. TATTOFF’s Medical Director Dr. Will Kirby’s laser tattoo removal blog:
Since I have published articles on tattoo removal, have supervised more than 31,000 laser tattoo removal procedures, have laser tattoo removal articles currently pending publication and frequently speak at medical conferences on laser tattoo removal techniques, I am considered an authority on laser tattoo removal. As a result, I am occasionally contacted to serve as an expert witness on medical malpractice cases involving tattoo removal. Let me to remind you that the purpose of this blog is to provide you with the most up to date and accurate information regarding laser tattoo removal so you won’t have to experience some of the less then ideal results that I see in malpractice cases. Please feel free to comment on any of my blog entries and I’ll do my best to address your question or concern.
The patient in this picture went to a tattoo studio and inquired about having his tattoo removed. They informed him that they could inject a salt solution into his tattoo and it would be gone in three sessions. Three sessions later he showed up at a Dr. TATTOFF clinic requesting information on laser tattoo removal.
Laser tattoo removal process: A Q-switched laser delivers very short pulses of high intensity light into the treated area. The term Q-Switched indicates that the laser is pulsed so quickly (billionths of a second) that it is able to dissolve the ink without destroying the live tissue in the process. The tattoo inks and pigments then selectively absorb the light, dissolve into smaller ink particles that are harmlessly removed by the body’s immune system in the weeks following treatment. For a more detailed explnation as to how laser tattoo removal works, watch the video on the Dr. TATTOFF homepage, or click here for in-depth information on the laser tattoo removal process.
