How does laser tattoo removal work?

Laser energy is directed at the tattooed area for a fraction of a second, passing harmlessly through the outer layer of the skin and targeting the tattoo ink directly. The laser disrupts the ink, allowing your body to absorb it and break it down naturally.

The process is not immediate. After the treatment, the ink that was exposed to the laser will break down and be removed by your body's immune system over a period of weeks. Once that process is complete, you can come in for your next visit, repeating the process until the tattoo is gone. Most tattoos average 5 to 15 treatments for full removal—some take longer and rarely may be complete after just a few visits. Some ink colors are harder to target and require more sessions. Because it is your body that actually breaks down the ink, every person's removal process will be different.

Does it hurt?

Laser tattoo removal is a low-risk, outpatient procedure. The discomfort of the procedure is minor, and has been described as similar to a rubber-band snapping on the skin. The procedure is also described as much less painful than getting a tattoo. Prior to your treatment, we numb the area with a high power topical anesthetic cream. As we treat the area, we cool the overlying skin with our Zimmer Cryo 5 skin cooler, resulting in additional anesthesia. This combination of topical anesthesia and cooling air makes the procedure as comfortable as possible- patients rave about this excellent new cooling system.

Can My Tattoo Be Removed?

Every tattoo is different, so no service available today can guarantee 100% success or zero skin discoloration. Dr. TATTOFF uses the most advanced technology available for the highest success rates around for full tattoo removal, and all tattoos can be at least significantly reduced.

Lighter skin tones have a higher success rate. Most tattoos are significantly reduced in appearance after the first session. Black, red, dark orange and dark blue tattoos will usually respond relatively quickly to treatments. Green, purple, brown, light orange and light blue colors may require more visits. Permanent Hair Removal & Photofacials

Is IPL hair removal permanent? Yes, hair follicles that have absorbed the energy of the light and have been destroyed (usually 80%) will never grow hair again. Some hair growth may appear after 5-7 treatments but it will be thinner, lighter in color and grow at a much slower rate than before. Since your hair grows in intervals of 3 cycles, we recommend waiting 5-6 weeks in between treatments until your desired result is achieved. Our goal is to target hair growth in the Anagen phase where hair growth is active and contains the most melanin.

Our Palomar Starlux IPL System

Palomar is a pioneer in light and laser based equipment. They developed the first high-powered laser hair removal system in 1996 and the Starlux IPL is the newest technology available (more powerful than the Medilux). This laser features active contact cooling for maximum comfort— and the IPL is faster than other lasers, and thus we are able to treat large areas in less time. After researching many lasers, we found the Starlux to be most efficient and effective for permanent hair reduction and pigmented lesions.

The Palomar pulsed light handpieces use AccuSpectrum Technology to filter light in the optimal bands of the spectrum for specific treatments. This allows us to choose the best handpiece for the treatments you seek.

Permanent Hair Reduction – (LuxR, LuxRs, LuxY)

Undesired or excessive body hair is a common concern of many men and women. The solution is StarLux IPL Permanent Hair Removal for long-lasting results and virtually hair-free skin. Our unique system emits intense pulses of light that is absorbed by the hair follicle disabling the hair to grow. IPL hair removal permanently eliminates or reduces hair on all body areas and most skin types eliminating the need for messy creams, shaving or waxing.

• Emits intense pulses of light that are absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle disabling the hair to grow
• 2 treatment heads (R and Rs) to better target different skin types
• 5-7 treatments 4-6 weeks a part
• No hair removal other than shaving 6 weeks prior to treatment
• No sun exposure or self tanning 3-4 weeks prior
• Ideal candidate is light skin with dark hair but able to treat all skin types

• Treated area will become very photosensitive so sunblock and hat are recommended for face if going in the sun
