What is IPL Photofacial?
IPL stands for intense pulsed light. The IPL unit is a device that’s used to improve the physical signs of aging on the face, neck, chest, and hands. Patients report that IPL photofacials help improve skin color, texture & tone, decrease pore size, and reduce brown spots and roseacea, providing an overall more vibrant and youthful complexion!
How does it work?
Skin is composed of several layers. The outer layer (stratum corneum) is quite tough and, although microscopically thin, is the layer showing the most damage. This outer layer is continually being cast off by friction and replaced by the cells of the deeper epidermal layers. IPL targets the superficial and deeper skin layers so rejuvenated, clear skin can be revealed.
What does IPL specifically target?
How many treatments are needed?
Although many patients report positive results after just one treatment, generally 5-7 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart are needed to provide a more even, vibrant complexion. The number of treatments you’ll need ultimately depends on the amount of sun damage you have.
How does it feel?
There are short pulses of light directed at the skin’s surface. These pulses feel similar to warm elastic bands slapping against the skin. Depending on the area of the body being treated, treatments last from 15-45 minutes.
How will I look immediately after treatment?
Brown spots may appear darker and broken capillaries may seem more visible. Also, the face may appear flushed. There is little downtime and makeup can be applied immediately after treatment.
How do I get the best results?
Patients that can be treated with IPL have lighter skin with dark pigmented and vascular lesions. A person with a suntan should wait until the tan fades before receiving treatment. It’s best to avoid sun exposure by wearing a hat and sunglasses and it’s also important to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen everyday.
